But as the US midterm elections got under way on Tuesday, the big winner was pragmatism.</p><p>Democrats in Texas <a href="https://www.theguardian.com/us-news/2026/mar/03/texas-primary-election-results">picked James Talarico</a>, a Presbyterian seminarian who preaches a political gospel of bridging divides, as their nominee for the Senate.
